April Steamings

The title applies to me and not the plot which continues to be satisfyingly productive as todays steamer contents will confirm.

I had a phone call today from my parents who were happy yet a little puzzled to find my blog mentioned in the Saturday edition of the Telegraph under the section: Best Allotment Blogs. The puzzlement was not so much due to the broadsheet recognition but rather the manner in which I was described - “Earthwoman is a working mother who posts beautiful pics and regular updates on her plot.”

Now I would like to reassure my folks that I have not been hiding any grandkids from them and as a note to any new readers I have to say I am resolutely childless, but I do post quite nice pics.

Expect a visit from your parents shortly - just to “see if you are ok” and check the cupboards and under the bed.

That is the funniest thing ever! Well done getting in the Telegraph though. I think that beats me getting into the Metro.

How weird that they got that so wrong! Didn’t they ask you!?!?

    Yummey
Well done for mention in the paper - just goes to show that you can never believe anything you read in the press.
    Lovely produce from your plot

Maybe they edited the article at the last minute to avoid referring to you as “working girl”. This slip up might be preferable.

Congratulations you, now you can tell everyone you are really famous! There is probably someone else in the article with 10 kids wondering why they are being referred to as childless hehe

Still at least they got the part about the pics right :)

Hi I know this is off topic but I saw Simon @ The Plot Thickens post about your question re allotment coppicing. Here’s the comment I wrote for you both over at Simon’s:

Hi Simon - there’s an allotment forestry website you & Earthwoman might be interested in:

    http://www.allotmentforestry.com/index3.htm

Looking at it just now I see I missed National Beanpole week last week :(

The site’s all about promoting ancient crafts such as coppicing in an allotment setting :) I found out about it from 1 of Caroline Foley’s books.

Have a great bank holiday weekend!

Forgot to say - congratulations on the Telegraph mention! It’s good to see that someone’s done a bit more research than usual and featured different blogs to the usual suspects.

Fame comes at a price, doesn’t it. Maybe Andy Warhol’s been misquoted all these years: it’s fifteen minutes of fame, and ten years of explaining to all your friends, acquaintances, and relatives–the relatives most of all–what they got wrong.
    Congrats on the notice, though.
